Layer Systems

Cage layer housing, from day-old chick to the egg room

Integrated pullet rearing and cage layer production on the VALLI system, engineered for Philippine conditions: controlled feeding, clean eggs off the belt, and manure managed at source.

The challenge

One integrated system for the pressures egg producers face

Across the Philippines, feed cost, egg quality, manure and fly control, and unit economics are all getting harder at once. Cage layer housing addresses them in a single system. AFI designs, builds, and equips it, from pullet rearing through lay, combining purpose-built buildings, best-of-breed equipment, and the environmental control needed to perform in a tropical climate.

  • Turnkey caged layer and caged pullet installations delivered
  • VALLI Modulo 135 layer cages and Modulo Crescita rearing cages
  • ONDA egg collection: no hand touches an egg between cage and egg room
  • Belt-clean manure removal: drier houses, fewer flies, saleable output
The economics

Four factors decide the cost of an egg

Every AFI system decision traces back to one of them. Housing, equipment, and climate are one system, and the egg pays for all three.

Feed conversion

Feed is the dominant cost of an egg. An even, fresh feed strip at every pass, no spillage, and a climate that keeps hens eating in the hot season all protect the conversion rate.

Eggs per hen housed

Persistency across the long cycle is decided by uniformity at transfer, lighting discipline, water availability, and heat stress management, working together.

First-quality egg share

Every retaining point engineered out between cage floor and egg room: floating floor, guided rolls, scraper-cleaned belts, gentle elevation.

Labour and losses

Automatic feeding, egg collection, and manure removal take daily labour out of the house, and belt-clean manure handling takes flies, ammonia, and disease pressure out with it.

The AFI layer farm model

Two housing systems working as one

Pullets grow in a caged rearing house on the same building platform as production, then transfer onto the same VALLI cage family they were reared on: the same nipple action, the same feed presentation.

Both house types share the same AFI building system and climate backbone. The cage fit-out is what changes.

Inside the system

Every tier is a production line

Fed, watered, lit, cleaned, and counted by the same automated system.

Cage system · VALLI

VALLI Modulo 135 cage layer system

The AFI standard for the Philippines, designed for optimal hygiene, clean first-quality eggs, and consistent performance across the laying cycle.

  • Controlled stocking at AFI’s 445 to 500 cm² per bird specification
  • Floating wire-mesh floor: eggs roll gently onto the belt at a 7° slope, with no retaining spots
  • Anti-spillage feed trough that stays accurate after years of heavy use
  • No contact with manure: a belt-clean system under every tier
Uniform layers start in the rearing cage
Pullet rearing · VALLI

Uniform layers start in the rearing cage

VALLI Modulo Crescita rearing cages run on the same building and climate platform as the production house, so pullets transfer onto a laying system they already know.

  • Additional grids reduce wire spacing from 40 to 25 mm, so chicks reach the feed from the first week
  • Every tier is a starting tier: brood on whichever tier holds temperature best
  • Winched drinking lines follow the flock, with extra nipples on starting tiers
  • LPG brooding heat run from the environmental controller

Feeding · VALLI · Chore-Time

An even, fresh feed strip at every pass

The travelling hopper is the AFI standard, with flat chain available on the same trough. At every pass the dispenser cleans the trough and restores the feed level, so every bird eats the same feed.

  • No spots of piled-up or stale feed; very low power use and maintenance
  • Chore-Time feed bins with FLEX-AUGER fill lines from intake to trough
  • Load cells under the silo connect feed weight to the controller: the ration is weighed, not estimated
Clean, counted, and untouched by hand
Egg collection · VALLI ONDA · Lubing

Clean, counted, and untouched by hand

Eggs roll onto scraper-cleaned belts, rise gently on ONDA elevators, and travel by conveyor to the egg room. AFI is the Lubing dealer for the Philippines.

  • ONDA elevators collect from every tier at once, up to 20,000 eggs per hour
  • Egg saver wires slow each egg; an egg protector wire prevents pecking
  • Two counters per cage row: production is a number, not an estimate
  • Lubing rod conveyors move up to 45,000 eggs per hour across the farm
Manure managed at source
Manure handling · VALLI

Manure managed at source

Manure is the issue Philippine layer operators feel most directly: flies, odour, neighbours, and the LGU. A belt-clean system removes it before it builds up beneath the birds.

  • Polypropylene belts under every tier, one geared motor per tier, no transmission chains
  • Cross and sloped TP98 conveyors lift manure out of the house to truck height
  • Drier houses, fewer flies, less ammonia
  • Belt manure is dry and stackable: a by-product with a market, not a disposal cost

Lighting · Hontech-Wins

A light programme the controller drives

Day length and intensity drive sexual maturity, onset of lay, and persistency. AFI holds the exclusive Philippine dealership for Hontech-Wins poultry LED lighting.

  • LED corridor luminaires on every aisle, mounted on the cage frame
  • IP67 washdown-rated, flicker-free, smooth 0 to 100% dimming
  • Programmable sunrise and sunset from the environmental controller
The right conditions at every tier
Climate · DACS · TPI · Hotraco

The right conditions at every tier

In a multi-tier house, conditions must be right at every tier, not just at head height. Insulation, ventilation, inlets, cooling, and automation are designed as one system.

  • DACS MagFan 5 tunnel ventilation, built for the higher static pressures of caged houses
  • TPI Omniflux side wall inlets and TPI tunnel units at shaded cooling pad walls
  • Hotraco Fortica MAX control: climate, feed, water, light, and weighing on one screen
  • Remote access by phone, with multi-house management on the Fortus platform
TPI tunnel units open beside multi-tier layer cages
Air inlets · TPI

Air in at the right speed, in the right direction

In a caged layer house the incoming air has to reach every tier. TPI Omniflux side wall inlets, standard on AFI multi-tier cage houses, set air speed and direction independently at each inlet. At the cooling pads, TPI 6000 series tunnel units open and close by winch from the controller.

  • Four adjustable louvres and a sliding control plate on every Omniflux inlet
  • Wind hoods and light traps fitted to every inlet
  • Insulated polyurethane tunnel units at the cooling pad openings
  • Automatic winching from the Hotraco controller
